Amanda moved back home to Portland this summer after a 12 year adventure in Maryland, Virginia and Washington DC.  She received her B.S. in Mathematics from the University of Maryland in 2003 and has spent the last six years teaching math to diverse and struggling populations from 7th through 12th grade, all across the Washington D.C. region.

She switched her career focus from astrophysics to teaching math when she began tutoring at-risk middle and high school students from the eastern suburbs of Washington D.C.  Amanda blends traditional classroom structure with a personalized needs analysis to ensure each student has success with rigorous academics, but in a relaxed and often entertaining environment.

Amanda’s family consists of her husband Kurt, daughters Isabella, 3, and Jane, 18, her mother Carol, her grandmother and four cats. Her oldest daughter, Lea, is a sophomore at George Mason University in Virginia.
