Comcast employees provide school makeover
Approximately 100 employee volunteers from Comcast descended on Mt. Scott Learning Centers' high school on Saturday, October 7 for the annual Comcast/Hands On Portland Cares Day, the largest community service event of its kind in Oregon.
Volunteers cleaned, painted, and landscaped several areas in and around the school, providing an “extreme makeover-school edition” in just four hours.
This was the second consecutive year Mt. Scott was selected as a Comcast volunteer site for the event. That meant a small army of the company’s employees joined forces to tackle cleanup and painting projects coordinated by Hands On Portland and MSLC’s executive director.
"It's pretty amazing what can be accomplished in just a few hours," said Tom DeJardin, Mt. Scott's executive director. "We are so appreciative of all the hard work by Comcast and Hands On Portland. Cares Day is a tremendous help to our organization - our students, their families, and our staff. We are very fortunate to be a beneficiary of such an awesome community service event. We would never be able to accomplish these projects without this kind of support."
