Mt. Scott High School students volunteered this fall at Community Cycling Center (CCC) to help the organization prepare for its 2008 Holiday Bike Drive.
Founded in 1994, Community Cycling Center broadens access to bicycling and its benefits through hands-on programs, volunteer projects, and a neighborhood bike shop. Mt. Scott students volunteered at CCC cleaning and repairing bicycles.
Each December, Community Cycling Center provides 500 young children with their first bicycles, new helmets, and basic safety education. The Holiday Bike Drive is designed to benefit children from low-income families. It is a huge, community-building event that CCC works toward all year long and culminates in one day in December.
Mt. Scott students were among the over 700 volunteers who have dedicated more than 3,400 hours helping collect, clean, and refurbish the bicycles.
