| Mt. Scott Learning Centers (MSLC) is excited to announce our program consolidation for the 2011-12 school year!
Traditionally, MSLC has served more than 120 students from Portland Public Schools and other surrounding school districts at two distinct and physically separate sites: Mt. Scott Middle School (grades 6-9, ages 10-15) and Mt. Scott High School (grades 10-12, ages 15-20). This year, all of our students are housed under one roof at our newly expanded campus at 6148 SE Holgate (our former high school site).
In 2009, consolidating the two schools was identified as MSLC's top priority, and a vital step toward the organization’s long-term health and viability. Board and staff began planning the project for over two years and were ready to bring the middle and high school programs together, under one roof, for the 2011-2012 school year. A renovation of the former Laurelwood Church building is providing the classrooms, counseling, and meeting space needed to run a consolidated grades 6-12 program. The renovation is allowing us to serve additional students and enhance the academic and support services provided to students and their families.
The interior construction is completed, but the exterior phase of the project (wheelchair ramp, sidewalk expansion, modifications to stairs and landscaping, etc.) remains unfinished. Unforeseen additional requirements imposed by the City of Portland have delayed the targeted completion date and significantly increased the overall project budget. We are working hard to complete the exterior work by the end of the school year and appreciate your patience and support during this time.
