Waggener Edstrom employees chip in
with makeover effort at middle school
Approximately 40 employee volunteers from the Oregon headquarters of Waggener Edstrom provided a much-appreciated afternoon of service on August 2 at Mt. Scott Learning Centers new middle school site.
The cleanup and painting project was a collaborative effort between Waggener Edstrom and Hands On Greater Portland to support the middle school's move to Foster Elementary School (5205 SE 86th Avenue), one of the previously closed Portland Public Schools buildings. The building had been vacant for two years and was in desperate need of cleaning and painting before Mt. Scott could move in.
Hands On Greater Portland secured a generous donation from Sherwin Williams for all the paint and painting supplies for the service project. Landscaping tools and supplies were also donated for the small army of Waggener Edstrom employees. The volunteers cleaned, painted, and landscaped several areas in and around the school, providing an “extreme makeover-school edition” in just three hours.
"It's pretty amazing what can be accomplished in just a few hours," said Tom DeJardin, Mt. Scott's executive director. "We are so appreciative of all the hard work by Waggener Edstrom and Hands On Greater Portland. This is a tremendous help to our organization - our students, their families, and our staff. We are very fortunate to be a beneficiary of such an wonderful community service effort. We would never be able to accomplish these projects without this kind of support."
