Kyle Golphenee, Language Arts Teacher:
“What a wonderful experience for our students! The student writers have nothing but outstanding feedback about their experience and several students who were not involved expressed some regret for not signing up. Our students are very creative individuals with an astonishing amount of emotional depth. Seeing this spirit reveal itself on stage was an amazing experience. As teachers, we have very little, if any, opportunity to focus a large block of time to any one student and for that I am jealous of all of you. However, you did inspire me to become more aware and responsive to the creativity inside each student.”
Autumn Honstein, Student:
“What I really enjoyed about PlayWrite was how much I learned about fully evaluating myself and my writing. It was really helpful getting to rediscover all my emotions and be able to use that skill in perfecting my writing. I know I will do that in my writing. I never really thought I could write a play, but I can, and I did, and it was just a really great experience.”
Nefertari Bell, Student:
“I love everybody from PlayWrite so much and left with many great new friendships thanks for this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Also, I want to give special thanks to Julianna. You’re so awesome and mean more to me than a coach. You’re a really good friend. Love you guys, hope to keep in touch, miss you.”
Krystal Davidson, Student:
“I really liked PlayWrite. It brought out a lot of my feelings and showed me a lot of things that I didn’t know about myself. It was a great experience and the coaches were wonderful. It was great to see a play that I wrote. I had never thought of writing anything like it. It was great.”
Janelle Adams, Student:
I loved PlayWrite and I’m so glad you took the time to stop and do what is obviously something you enjoy with our particular group. I am so glad I did this. You guys have inspired me to write more and go more indepth with my writing. I appreciate you guys so much. Thank you.”
Julian Blankenship, Student:
“I had a wonderful time with all of you. I won’t judge my work as harshly now because of your help. Thank you guys so very much. I would like you guys to come back and we all could write a new play that could go on Broadway.”
Nela Knigge, Student:
“I enjoyed getting to know the writers and having the privilege of creating a once-in-a-lifetime script with their guidance. I loved every minute of it. The one-on-one individual help gave me a lot of insight into myself.”
Yousuf Kargbo, Student:
“PlayWrite was very helpful to me. I never thought I could write a play until you showed me the way and I’m very thankful for that. You gave me confidence in my writing skills. I needed this in my life. I’ll never forget this.”
Nina Burch, Student:
“PlayWrite was AWESOME! It boosted my confidence and helped me learn new ways to express my feelings, thoughts and senses. I love to write and being apart of this workshop helped bring out more creativity and passion to become an awesome writer. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for boosting my spirits and helping me communicate with others. I’ll never forget you guys and please come back soon. THANK YOU!”
Drew Shepherd, Student
“I thought PlayWrite was a great experience. I learned new ways to show and present my writing. I got the opportunity to watch my peers express themselves in new ways. The plays themselves were amazing, and getting to watch them performed by the coaches that you’ve been working with was awesome. I look forward to projects between our school and PlayWrite in the future.”
Sarah Leckron, Student
“PlayWrite was a little hard for me, but I enjoyed working with all the coaches. You guys are all wonderful people. Thank you very much for all of your time.”
