Mt. Scott High School students visited the Salmon River in Welches this fall to examine the question, “How healthy are local rivers for salmon?” The two-day trip in October was part of Oregon Trout's Salmon Watch program.
After studying salmon lifecycles and habitat in Joe Orzali's science classroom at Mt. Scott, students traveled to the Salmon River to observe spawning salmon. Students tested water quality and identified microorganisms with bioligists.
The Salmon Watch program is designed to instill a deeper appreciation and understanding of the value of native wild fish, watershed conservation and environmental stewardship.
