Enrollment & Admission Process

We invite you to consider enrollment of your student at Mt. Scott Learning Centers (MSLC). MSLC is a non-profit Oregon-certified educational institution. We do not charge tuition but contract with the student's home school district to meet their academic needs.* The majority of our students are referred to our programs through the student's home school district.

*We currently have a contract with Portland Public Schools.  If your student lives outside of the PPS district, please contact your home school district to request either (1) an Inter-District Transfer to PPS or (2) that they contact MSLC directly to discuss an individual contract of service for your student.

Admission Process:

1.         Student Interest Form.  Complete a Student Interest Form (SIF) and submit to Gayle Prentice Wood, Student Services.  SIFs can be printed from the MSLC website, requested and sent via email, mailed or faxed, or the information can be taken over the phone by our administrative office. 

2.         Wait List.  Once the SIF is received, the student is added to the appropriate wait list.  Wait lists are kept by age and number of credits accrued, if applicable, as well as by the date the SIF is received. 

3.         Interview.  When an opening becomes available in one of our groups, students and families are contacted to schedule an interview.  Interviews require both the student and a parent or guardian. The interview generally lasts about 45 minutes and includes a tour of the building, a general orientation to the program, and questions about the student's personal and academic history.

4.         Shadow Day.  If the student and program staff feel the school is a good fit, the student is invited for a shadow day, where the student attends core classes and is expected to participate fully within the program. After the shadow day, academy staff then meet to make a final determination on the student's enrollment at MSLC.

MSLC typically interviews for admission at the beginning of each quarter (roughly late August, early November, late January, and early April), but will enroll new students at any time during the school year, based on seat availability.  Enrollment in our program is generally in high demand. Completion of the Student Interest Form will secure your student on wait lists provided he/she is otherwise eligible to attend.
