Organization
Description
Mt. Scott Learning Centers serves students whose
academic needs are not met in traditional classroom environments.
We are certified by the Oregon Department of Education to provide
full-day academic services to students referred to us by area school
districts. Typically our students are low-income and come from
a diverse range of social and ethnic backgrounds. Our primary financial
support is provided through contracts with the school districts
of students we serve. Families do not pay tuition.
Mt. Scott Learning Centers achieves success with most enrolled
students who previously struggled academically and/or socially
in traditional environments. Mt. Scott started in 1994 with summer
academic programs for southeast Portland youth in the Mt. Scott
Park Presbyterian Church. We now operate a middle school of up to 50 students and
a high school (Mt. Scott High School) of another
80 students. Our model involves small classroom sizes, integrated
curriculum, single gender classrooms, and hands-on experiential learning.
Mt.
Scott Learning Centers is an equal opportunity employer
and is committed to workplace diversity. We do not discriminate
on the basis of race, class, gender, religion or sexual preference.
We comply with the federal ADA act.
